Signs of Cold Stress in California buckwheat
Symptoms
California buckwheat tolerates cold well and flourishes best when temperatures exceed 60℉. In winter, it needs to stay above 50℉. If temperatures drop below 40℉, while winter changes might not be obvious, spring may see reduced or absent sprouting.
Solutions
In spring, remove any sections that did not sprout.
Signs of Heat Stress in California buckwheat
Symptoms
In summer, California buckwheat should be maintained below 75℉. When temperatures go above 85℉, the plant's leaves might lighten, curl easily, get sunburned, and in extreme cases, the whole plant could wilt and dry out.
Solutions
Remove any parts that are sunburned and dried. Relocate the plant to a spot offering protection from midday and afternoon sun, or use a shade cloth. Water the plant in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
