Signs of Cold Stress in Chinese yam
Symptoms
Chinese yam tolerates cool conditions moderately well, flourishing optimally between 68℉ and 77℉. In colder months, temperatures should remain above 59℉. If temperatures drop below 41℉, foliage may darken. Severe cases can lead to water-soaked tissue death, wilting, drooping, and a gradual browning of leaves.
Solutions
Remove any parts damaged by frost. Promptly relocate the plant indoors to a warm spot or construct a temporary greenhouse for protection from cold. When indoors, position it near a south-facing window for adequate light. If natural light is insufficient, provide artificial illumination.
Signs of Heat Stress in Chinese yam
Symptoms
In summer, Chinese yam should be maintained below 77℉. When temperatures surpass 86℉, plant development slows, leaf coloration fades, and it becomes more prone to sun damage.
Solutions
Remove any sun-scorched and desiccated portions. Relocate the plant to an area offering protection from the afternoon sun. Water the plant during the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
