Signs of Cold Stress in California palm
Symptoms
California palm tolerates cool temperatures moderately well and flourishes optimally when temperatures exceed 70℉. In winter, it needs to be maintained above 50℉. If the temperature drops below 20℉, its foliage might begin to sag. Minor cases can be reversed, but severe instances lead to wilting and eventual leaf drop.
Solutions
Remove any parts damaged by frost. Before subsequent cold exposure, cover the plant with materials like non-woven fabric or cloth, and build a windbreak to shield it from chilly gusts.
Signs of Heat Stress in California palm
Symptoms
In summer, California palm should be kept below 85℉. When temperatures rise above 95℉, the leaves' color fades, tips may dry and shrivel, leaves might curl, and the plant becomes more prone to sunburn.
Solutions
Prune off any sun-scorched and desiccated sections. Relocate the plant to an area offering protection from the midday and afternoon sun, or use a shade cloth to provide cover. Water the plant in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
