Signs of Cold Stress in Monterey pine
Symptoms
Monterey pine tolerates cold well and grows optimally above 50℉. In winter, temperatures should remain above 40℉. If temperatures drop below 32℉, while no immediate winter changes may be apparent, branches can become brittle and dry in spring, with no new growth appearing.
Solutions
In spring, remove any dead branches that have not produced new foliage.
Signs of Heat Stress in Monterey pine
Symptoms
In summer, Monterey pine should be kept below 75℉. When temperatures exceed 85℉, the plant's leaves may lighten, tips may dry and shrivel, and it becomes more prone to sunburn.
Solutions
Remove any sun-damaged and desiccated sections. Relocate the plant to a spot offering protection from midday and afternoon sun, or use a shade cloth. Water the plant in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
