Signs of Cold Stress in Arborvitae fern
Symptoms
Arborvitae fern tolerates cold well and flourishes optimally when temperatures exceed 65℉. In winter, it needs to stay above 60℉. If temperatures drop below 50℉, while winter changes might not be obvious, spring may see reduced or absent new growth.
Solutions
In spring, remove any sections that have not produced new shoots.
Signs of Heat Stress in Arborvitae fern
Symptoms
In summer, Arborvitae fern should be maintained below 75℉. When temperatures surpass 80℉, the plant's foliage might lighten, curl, become prone to sun damage, and in severe instances, the whole plant could wilt and dry out.
Solutions
Remove any sun-damaged and desiccated portions. Relocate the plant to a spot offering protection from midday and afternoon sun, or use a shade covering. Water the plant in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
