Signs of Cold Stress in Alfalfa
Symptoms
Alfalfa tolerates cold well and grows optimally above 65℉. In winter, maintain temperatures above 50℉. If temperatures drop below 32℉, while winter changes might be unnoticeable, spring may see reduced or absent sprouting.
Solutions
In spring, remove any sections that have not sprouted.
Signs of Heat Stress in Alfalfa
Symptoms
In summer, Alfalfa should be maintained below 77℉. When temperatures surpass 86℉, plant leaves may lighten, curl, become prone to sunburn, and in severe cases, the whole plant might wilt and dry out.
Solutions
Remove any sun-damaged and desiccated portions. Relocate the plant to a spot offering protection from midday and afternoon sun, or use a shade cloth. Water the plant in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
