Signs of Cold Temperatures in Ocotillo
Symptoms
Ocotillo flourishes in warm conditions and cannot withstand cold. Optimal growth occurs when temperatures exceed 75℉. In winter, maintain temperatures above 60℉. If temperatures drop below 50℉, the plant may weaken, wilt, and become susceptible to root rot. Mild frost damage might not show immediate signs, but the plant will gradually decline after about a week.
Solutions
Prune away frost-damaged sections, checking for root decay. If roots are rotted, remove them, and the plant can be propagated from cuttings. Promptly relocate indoors to a warm spot, positioning it near a south-facing window for ample light. If natural light is insufficient, provide supplementary illumination.
