Signs of Cold Stress in Jumping cholla
Symptoms
Jumping cholla tolerates cool temperatures moderately well and flourishes when temperatures exceed 70℉. In colder months, maintain temperatures above 50℉. If temperatures drop below 32℉, foliage may begin to sag. Mild cases are reversible, but severe cases lead to wilting and eventual leaf drop.
Solutions
Remove any parts damaged by frost. Before further exposure to cold, cover the plant with materials like non-woven fabric or burlap, and build a windbreak to shield it from harsh winds.
Signs of Heat Stress in Jumping cholla
Symptoms
In summer, Jumping cholla should be kept below 90℉. When temperatures rise above 100℉, leaves may lighten in color, tips might dry and shrivel, foliage could curl, and the plant becomes more prone to sunburn.
Solutions
Prune off any sun-scorched or desiccated sections. Relocate the plant to an area offering protection from intense midday and afternoon sun, or use a shade cloth for cover. Water the plant in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
