Signs of Cold Stress in Red currant
Symptoms
Red currant exhibits exceptional cold hardiness, but winter temperatures should remain above 40℉. Should the temperature fall below this point, while no immediate changes might be apparent in winter, branches could become fragile and desiccated by spring, preventing new growth.
Solutions
During spring, remove any lifeless branches that have not developed fresh foliage.
Signs of Heat Stress in Red currant
Symptoms
Red currant does not tolerate elevated temperatures well. When temperatures surpass 75℉, it can lead to considerable leaf shedding, and in extreme instances, the entire plant may wilt and perish.
Solutions
Remove any parts that are scorched and dried out. Relocate the plant to an area offering protection from the midday and afternoon sun, or employ a shade cloth for cover. Irrigate the plant in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
