Signs of Cold Stress in Mexican pinyon
Symptoms
Mexican pinyon tolerates cold well and flourishes optimally when temperatures exceed 50℉. In winter, it needs to be maintained above 32℉. If temperatures drop below 20℉, while no immediate winter damage might be apparent, branches can become brittle and dry by spring, preventing new growth.
Solutions
In spring, remove any dead branches that have not produced new foliage.
Signs of Heat Stress in Mexican pinyon
Symptoms
In summer, Mexican pinyon should be kept below 80℉. When temperatures rise above 95℉, the plant's leaves might lighten in hue, their tips could dry and shrivel, and the plant becomes more prone to sun damage.
Solutions
Remove any parts that are sunburned and dried. Relocate the plant to a spot offering protection from the midday and afternoon sun, or use a shade cloth for cover. Water the plant in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
