Signs of Cold Stress in Sugar gum
Symptoms
Sugar gum tolerates cold moderately and flourishes optimally above 60℉. In winter, maintain temperatures above 50℉. Below 40℉, leaves may sag. Mild cases can recover, but severe cases lead to wilting and eventual leaf drop.
Solutions
Remove frost-damaged sections. Before subsequent cold exposure, cover the plant with materials like non-woven fabric or cloth, and build a windbreak to shield it from chilly gusts.
Signs of Heat Stress in Sugar gum
Symptoms
In summer, Sugar gum should remain below 77℉. Above 90℉, leaves lighten in color, tips may dry and shrivel, leaves might curl, and the plant becomes more prone to sun damage.
Solutions
Prune off sun-scorched and desiccated portions. Relocate the plant to a spot offering midday and afternoon shade, or use a shade cloth. Water the plant in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
