Signs of Cold Stress in String of buttons
Symptoms
String of buttons does not tolerate very low temperatures well. It flourishes optimally when temperatures range from 60℉ to 75℉. In winter, it needs to be kept above 50℉. If the temperature drops below 40℉, its leaves will show water-soaked damage and begin to droop. For minor frost damage, initial signs might be absent, but within a week, leaves will severely wilt and eventually detach.
Solutions
Cut away any frost-damaged sections. Promptly relocate the plant indoors to a warm spot or construct a temporary greenhouse for thermal insulation. If moved indoors, position it near a south-facing window for sufficient light. If using a makeshift greenhouse, ensure good air circulation to prevent rot from stagnant air.
Signs of Heat Stress in String of buttons
Symptoms
In summer, String of buttons should be maintained below 75℉. When temperatures rise above 85℉, the plant will become dormant and is more susceptible to rot in humid conditions.
Solutions
Discard any dried or decayed portions. Transfer the plant to a location with partial shade, shielding it from direct sun during the midday and afternoon hours. Cease watering until cooler weather returns.
