Signs of Cold Stress in Prairie ironweed
Symptoms
Prairie ironweed tolerates cold well and flourishes optimally when temperatures exceed 65℉. In winter, it needs to be maintained above 50℉. If the temperature drops below 40℉, while winter changes might not be obvious, spring may see reduced or absent sprouting.
Solutions
In spring, remove any sections that did not sprout successfully.
Signs of Heat Stress in Prairie ironweed
Symptoms
In summer, Prairie ironweed should be kept below 75℉. When temperatures surpass 85℉, its leaves might lighten, curl, become prone to sunburn, and in severe instances, the whole plant could wilt and dry out.
Solutions
Prune off any sun-damaged and desiccated portions. Relocate the plant to a spot offering protection from midday and afternoon sun, or use a shade fabric. Water the plant in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
