Signs of Cold Stress in Japanese torreya
Symptoms
Japanese torreya tolerates cold well and flourishes optimally when temperatures exceed 50℉. In winter, maintain temperatures above 41℉. If temperatures drop below 32℉, while no immediate winter changes may be apparent, branches can become brittle and dry by spring, with no new growth emerging.
Solutions
In spring, remove any dead branches that have not produced new foliage.
Signs of Heat Stress in Japanese torreya
Symptoms
During summer, Japanese torreya should be maintained below 68℉. When temperatures surpass 77℉, the plant's leaves may lighten in hue, tips might dry and shrivel, and it becomes more prone to sun damage.
Solutions
Remove any sun-damaged and desiccated sections. Relocate the plant to a spot offering protection from midday and afternoon sun, or use a shade fabric. Water the plant in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
