Signs of Cold Stress in Butterfly orchid
Symptoms
Butterfly orchid flourishes in warm conditions and cannot withstand cold. Optimal growth occurs when temperatures exceed 65℉. In winter, maintain temperatures above 60℉. If the temperature drops below 55℉, leaves will show widespread water-soaked decay, wilting, and drooping.
Solutions
Remove any frost-damaged sections. Promptly move the plant indoors to a warm spot for cold protection. Position it near a south-facing window for sufficient light. Also, avoid placing it near heating units or AC vents to prevent overly dry air.
Signs of Heat Stress in Butterfly orchid
Symptoms
In summer, Butterfly orchid should be kept below 75℉. When temperatures surpass 80℉, plant growth stops, and leaves progressively wilt. It becomes more prone to root rot and can easily get sunburned from direct sun exposure.
Solutions
Cut off any sunburned and desiccated portions. Relocate the plant to an area offering shade from the midday and afternoon sun. Water the plant in the morning and evening to maintain moisture for both the plant and its surroundings.
