Signs of Cold Stress in Watermelon
Symptoms
Watermelon tolerates cold well and grows optimally when temperatures exceed 75℉. In winter, it needs to stay above 65℉. If temperatures drop below 50℉, while no immediate winter damage might be apparent, branches can become brittle and dry in spring, preventing new growth.
Solutions
In spring, remove any dead branches that haven't produced new foliage.
Signs of Heat Stress in Watermelon
Symptoms
In summer, Watermelon should be maintained below 85℉. When temperatures surpass 95℉, the plant's leaves may lighten, tips might dry and shrivel, and it becomes more prone to sun damage.
Solutions
Remove any sun-damaged or dried sections. Relocate the plant to a spot offering protection from midday and afternoon sun, or use a shade cloth. Water the plant in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
