Signs of Cold Stress in Quinoa
Symptoms
Quinoa tolerates cool temperatures moderately well, flourishing optimally between 60℉ and 75℉. In colder months, maintain temperatures above 50℉. If temperatures drop below 45℉, foliage may darken. Extreme cold can lead to water-soaked lesions, wilting, drooping, and a gradual browning of leaves.
Solutions
Remove any parts damaged by frost. Promptly relocate the plant to a warm indoor setting or construct a temporary greenhouse for protection. When indoors, position it near a south-facing window for ample light. Supplement with artificial lighting if natural light is insufficient.
Signs of Heat Stress in Quinoa
Symptoms
In summer, Quinoa should be maintained below 75℉. Temperatures exceeding 86℉ will inhibit growth, lighten leaf color, and increase susceptibility to sun damage.
Solutions
Prune off any sun-scorched or desiccated sections. Relocate the plant to an area offering protection from intense afternoon sun. Water the plant during morning and evening hours to maintain soil moisture.
