Signs of Cold Stress in Water lettuce
Symptoms
Water lettuce tolerates cool temperatures moderately well and flourishes optimally when temperatures exceed 72℉. In colder months, it needs to stay above 60℉. If temperatures drop below 50℉, its leaves might begin to sag. Minor cases can be reversible, but severe exposure leads to wilting and eventual leaf drop.
Solutions
Remove any parts damaged by frost. Before further cold exposure, cover the plant with materials like non-woven fabric or cloth, and build a windbreak to shield it from harsh winds.
Signs of Heat Stress in Water lettuce
Symptoms
In summer, Water lettuce should be maintained below 86℉. When temperatures rise above 95℉, leaf coloration fades, tips may dry and shrivel, leaves might curl, and the plant becomes more prone to sunburn.
Solutions
Cut off any parts that are sunburned or dried out. Relocate the plant to a spot offering protection from intense midday and afternoon sun, or use a shade cloth for cover. Water the plant in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
