Signs of Cold Stress in Hoary buckwheat
Symptoms
Hoary buckwheat flourishes in warm conditions and cannot withstand cold. Optimal growth occurs when temperatures exceed 60℉. In winter, maintain temperatures above 50℉. If temperatures drop below 40℉, the plant may weaken, droop, and be susceptible to root decay. Minor frost damage might not show immediate signs, but the plant will gradually decline over a week.
Solutions
Prune away frost-damaged sections, checking for root rot. If roots are rotted, remove them, and the plant can be propagated via cuttings. Promptly relocate indoors to a warm setting, positioning the plant near a south-facing window for ample light. If natural light is insufficient, provide supplementary illumination.
Signs of Heat Stress in Hoary buckwheat
Symptoms
In summer, Hoary buckwheat should be maintained below 75℉. When temperatures surpass 85℉, the plant's development will halt, it will lose moisture, wilt, and become more vulnerable to sun damage.
Solutions
Discard sunburnt and decayed portions. Protect the plant from direct afternoon sun until it recovers and resumes growth. For plants with root decay, cease watering until new roots start to form.
