Signs of Cold Stress in Hottentot fern
Symptoms
Hottentot fern tolerates cool temperatures moderately well, flourishing best when temperatures exceed 70℉. In winter, it needs to stay above 60℉. If temperatures drop below 50℉, foliage may begin to sag. Mild cases can recover, but severe cold causes leaves to wither and eventually drop.
Solutions
Remove any parts damaged by frost. Before future cold spells, cover the plant with materials like non-woven fabric or cloth, and build a windbreak to shield it from cold gusts.
Signs of Heat Stress in Hottentot fern
Symptoms
In summer, Hottentot fern should be maintained below 90℉. When temperatures surpass 100℉, leaf coloration lightens, leaf tips might dry and shrivel, leaves may curl, and the plant becomes more prone to sunburn.
Solutions
Prune off any sun-scorched and desiccated sections. Relocate the plant to a spot offering protection from intense midday and afternoon sun, or use a shade cloth for cover. Water the plant in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
