Signs of Cold Stress in Sargent's cypress
Symptoms
Sargent's cypress tolerates cold well and flourishes optimally when temperatures exceed 50℉. In winter, maintain temperatures above 40℉. If temperatures drop below 30℉, while no immediate winter changes may be apparent, branches can become brittle and dry in spring, with no new growth emerging.
Solutions
In spring, remove any dead branches that have not produced new foliage.
Signs of Heat Stress in Sargent's cypress
Symptoms
During summer, Sargent's cypress should be maintained below 70℉. When temperatures surpass 80℉, the plant's leaves may lighten in hue, tips might dry and shrivel, and the plant becomes more prone to sun damage.
Solutions
Remove any sun-damaged and desiccated sections. Relocate the plant to a spot offering protection from midday and afternoon sun, or use a shade cloth. Water the plant in the morning and evening to keep the soil hydrated.
