Ideal Temperature for Velvetleaf
Images of Velvetleaf
Signs of Cold Stress in Velvetleaf
Symptoms
Velvetleaf tolerates cold well and grows optimally when temperatures exceed 70℉. In winter, it needs to stay above 60℉. If temperatures drop below 50℉, while no immediate winter damage might be visible, spring germination could be reduced or entirely absent.
Solutions
In spring, remove any sections that have not germinated.
Signs of Heat Stress in Velvetleaf
Symptoms
In summer, Velvetleaf should be maintained below 80℉. When temperatures rise above 90℉, the plant's leaves might lighten, curl, become prone to sun damage, and in severe instances, the entire plant could wilt and dry out.
Solutions
Remove any sun-damaged and desiccated portions. Relocate the plant to an area shaded from the midday and afternoon sun, or use a shade fabric for protection. Water the plant in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
