Bagnoli truffle
Tuber mesentericum
A species of Truffles.
About the size of a chicken's egg, it's a very dark truffle featuring a substantial internal void. This particular cavity, somewhat winding and wide, frequently extends to half of the truffle's diameter, displaying converging veins that reminded the initial observer of a mesentery. While this internal structure isn't consistently so pronounced, a basal cavity is always present, with the veins converging towards it. Should there be any doubt, a central cup-like formation definitively clarifies the structure.
