Bear lentinus

Lentinellus ursinus

A species of Lentinellus.

The mushroom known as Bear Lentinus (Lentinellus ursinus) exhibits a cream or light pink hue and can occasionally be confused with the highly desirable and edible oyster mushroom. However, a simple sensory test will easily differentiate them: oyster mushrooms carry a faint aroma reminiscent of star anise, while the Bear Lentinus possesses a typical earthy mushroom scent and an intensely bitter flavor. Furthermore, its gills are characterized by a torn and serrated appearance, in contrast to the smooth gills of oyster mushrooms which extend partially down their stems.
