Signs of Cold Stress in Western red cedar

Western red cedar tolerates cold well and flourishes optimally when temperatures exceed 60℉. In winter, it needs to stay above 50℉. If temperatures drop below 32℉, while no immediate winter changes might be apparent, branches can become brittle and dry by spring, with no new growth appearing.

In spring, remove any dead branches that have not produced new foliage.

Symptoms
During summer, Western red cedar should be maintained below 75℉. When temperatures surpass 80℉, the plant's leaves might lighten in hue, tips could dry and shrivel, and it becomes more prone to sun damage.
Solutions
Prune off any sun-scorched and desiccated sections. Relocate the plant to a spot offering protection from midday and afternoon sun, or deploy a shade cloth. Water the plant in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
