Signs of Cold Stress in Sugarcane
Symptoms
Sugarcane thrives in warmth and cannot withstand low temperatures. Optimal growth occurs when temperatures exceed 68℉. In winter, maintain temperatures above 59℉. If the temperature drops below 50℉, leaves may lose their vibrant color. Following frost damage, leaves progressively turn brown or black, and the plant may exhibit wilting and drooping.
Solutions
Remove any frost-damaged sections. Promptly relocate the plant indoors to a warm area for protection from cold. Position the plant near a south-facing window to ensure sufficient sunlight. Furthermore, avoid placing it near heating units or air conditioning vents to prevent excessive air dryness.
Signs of Heat Stress in Sugarcane
Symptoms
In summer, Sugarcane should be maintained below 86℉. When temperatures surpass 95℉, leaf coloration fades, and the plant becomes more prone to sun damage.
Solutions
Prune off any sun-scorched and desiccated portions. Relocate the plant to a spot offering protection from intense midday and afternoon sun. Irrigate the plant in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
