Signs of Cold Stress in Blue oak
Symptoms
Blue oak tolerates cold moderately well and flourishes optimally when temperatures exceed 60℉. In winter, it needs to stay above 50℉. If the temperature drops below 40℉, its leaves might begin to sag. Minor cases allow recovery, but severe instances lead to wilting and eventual leaf drop.
Solutions
Remove any parts damaged by frost. Before future cold spells, cover the plant with materials like non-woven fabric or burlap, and build a windbreak to shield it from harsh winds.
Signs of Heat Stress in Blue oak
Symptoms
In summer, Blue oak should be maintained below 75℉. When temperatures surpass 85℉, leaves may lighten in color, tips might dry and shrivel, leaves could curl, and the plant becomes more prone to sunburn.
Solutions
Cut off any parts that are sunburned and desiccated. Relocate the plant to a spot offering protection from the midday and afternoon sun, or use a shade cloth for cover. Water the plant in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
