Signs of Cold Stress in Japanese pittosporum
Symptoms
Japanese pittosporum tolerates cold moderately and flourishes optimally when temperatures exceed 60℉. In winter, maintain temperatures above 30℉. If temperatures drop below 25℉, foliage may begin to sag. Mild cases can recover, but severe cases lead to wilting and eventual leaf drop.
Solutions
Remove any parts damaged by frost. Before subsequent cold spells, cover the plant with materials like non-woven fabric or burlap, and build a windbreak to shield it from harsh winds.
Signs of Heat Stress in Japanese pittosporum
Symptoms
In summer, Japanese pittosporum should be maintained below 75℉. When temperatures surpass 90℉, leaf coloration lightens, leaf tips may dry and shrivel, leaves might curl, and the plant becomes more prone to sunburn.
Solutions
Prune off any sunburned and desiccated sections. Relocate the plant to a spot offering protection from the midday and afternoon sun, or use a shade cloth for cover. Water the plant in the morning and evening to ensure soil moisture.
