Signs of Cold Stress in Southern Crabapple
Symptoms
Southern Crabapple tolerates cold well and flourishes optimally when temperatures exceed 60℉. In winter, it needs to be maintained above 45℉. If the temperature drops below 32℉, even if no immediate changes are apparent in winter, branches might become fragile and desiccated by spring, with no new growth appearing.
Solutions
In spring, remove any dead branches that have not produced new foliage.
Signs of Heat Stress in Southern Crabapple
Symptoms
During summer, Southern Crabapple should be kept below 75℉. When temperatures surpass 85℉, the plant's leaves may lighten in hue, their tips might dry and shrivel, and the plant becomes more prone to sun damage.
Solutions
Remove the sun-damaged and dried sections. Relocate the plant to a spot offering protection from the midday and afternoon sun, or use a shade cloth for cover. Water the plant in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
