Signs of Cold Stress in Needle juniper
Symptoms
Needle juniper tolerates extreme cold well, but winter temperatures should stay above 40℉. If temperatures fall below this point, while no immediate changes might be seen in winter, branches can become brittle and dry in spring, with no new growth appearing.
Solutions
During spring, remove any dead branches that haven't produced new foliage.
Signs of Heat Stress in Needle juniper
Symptoms
Needle juniper does not handle high temperatures well. When temperatures go above 75℉, it can shed many leaves, and in severe cases, the whole plant might wilt and perish.
Solutions
Cut off any sun-damaged and dried-out sections. Relocate the plant to a spot offering protection from the midday and afternoon sun, or use a shade fabric for cover. Water the plant in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
