Signs of Cold Stress in Dragon fruit
Symptoms
Dragon fruit flourishes in warm conditions and cannot withstand cold. Optimal growth occurs when temperatures exceed 68℉. In winter, maintain temperatures above 50℉. If temperatures drop below 32℉, the plant may weaken, droop, and become susceptible to root decay. Minor frost damage might not show immediate signs, but the plant will progressively decline after about a week.
Solutions
Prune away frost-damaged sections, checking for root rot. If roots are rotted, remove them, and the plant can be propagated from cuttings. Promptly relocate indoors to a warm setting, positioning the plant near a south-facing window for ample light. If natural light is inadequate, consider using supplementary lighting.
Signs of Heat Stress in Dragon fruit
Symptoms
In summer, Dragon fruit should be kept below 77℉. When temperatures surpass 90℉, plant growth will halt, leading to dehydration, wilting, and increased vulnerability to sunburn.
Solutions
Excise the sunburned and decayed portions. Protect the plant from direct afternoon sun until it recovers and resumes growth. For plants with root rot, cease watering until new roots begin to form.
