Signs of Cold Stress in African milk tree
Symptoms
African milk tree flourishes in warm conditions and cannot withstand cold. Optimal growth occurs when temperatures exceed 65℉. In winter, maintain temperatures above 60℉. Below 50℉, the plant may weaken, droop, and become susceptible to root decay. Mild frost damage might not show immediate signs, but the plant will progressively decline after about a week.
Solutions
Remove frost-damaged sections, checking for root rot. If roots are rotted, excise them, and the plant can be propagated via cuttings. Relocate indoors to a warm spot immediately, positioning it near a south-facing window for ample light. If natural light is insufficient, provide supplementary illumination.
Signs of Heat Stress in African milk tree
Symptoms
In summer, African milk tree should be kept below 75℉. When temperatures surpass 80℉, the plant will stop growing, dehydrate, wilt, and be more prone to sun damage.
Solutions
Excise sunburnt and decayed portions. Protect the plant from intense afternoon sun until it recovers and resumes growth. For plants with root rot, cease watering until new roots develop.
