Signs of Cold Stress in Cast-iron plant
Symptoms
Cast-iron plant tolerates cool temperatures moderately well, flourishing best above 60℉. In winter, maintain temperatures above 50℉. Below 35℉, foliage may begin to sag. Minor cases can recover, but severe exposure leads to wilting and eventual leaf drop.
Solutions
Remove any parts damaged by frost. Before future cold spells, cover the plant with materials like non-woven fabric or cloth, and build a windbreak to shield it from cold gusts.
Signs of Heat Stress in Cast-iron plant
Symptoms
In summer, Cast-iron plant needs temperatures below 75℉. Above 86℉, leaves lighten in color, tips may dry and shrivel, foliage might curl, and the plant becomes more prone to sunburn.
Solutions
Cut off any sun-scorched and desiccated sections. Relocate the plant to a spot offering protection from intense midday and afternoon sun, or use a shade cloth. Water the plant in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
