Sticky scalycap

Pholiota gummosa

A species of Scalycaps.

This fungus produces fruiting bodies featuring straw-yellow to beige caps, ranging from 2–6 cm (0.8–2.4 in) across. Beneath the cap, the densely packed gills are adnately attached to the stem. These gills are initially pale yellow but darken to brownish as they age and the spores ripen. A brown spore print is left by this mushroom. Its spores are smooth, thin-walled, somewhat kidney-shaped (subphaseoliform), and measure 6–8 by 3.5–4.5 µm.
