Black tooth

Phellodon niger

A species of Stipitate hydnoid fungi.

Found in coniferous woodlands, the black tooth mushroom frequently goes unnoticed as it harmonizes with the forest floor. It can even camouflage itself further by embedding into small branches and pine needles as it develops. Despite its name, this fungus exhibits a range of colors from a grayish-blue to a true gray, and has consequently been utilized in the production of gray dyes.
