Signs of Cold Stress in Ginger
Symptoms
Ginger tolerates cool conditions moderately well and flourishes optimally when temperatures exceed 68℉. In winter, it needs to stay above 59℉. If the temperature drops below 50℉, leaves might begin to sag. Minor cases can recover, but severe instances lead to wilting and eventual leaf drop.
Solutions
Remove any parts damaged by frost. Before further cold exposure, cover the plant with materials like non-woven fabric or cloth, and build a windbreak to shield it from cold gusts.
Signs of Heat Stress in Ginger
Symptoms
In summer, Ginger should be maintained below 86℉. When temperatures rise above 95℉, leaves may lighten in color, tips might dry and shrivel, leaves could curl, and the plant becomes more prone to sunburn.
Solutions
Cut off any sunburned and desiccated sections. Relocate the plant to a spot offering protection from the midday and afternoon sun, or use a shade cloth for cover. Water the plant in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
