Signs of Cold Stress in Maize
Symptoms
Maize tolerates cool temperatures moderately, flourishing optimally between 60℉ and 95℉. In colder months, maintain temperatures above 50℉. Below 32℉, foliage may darken. Severe cases show water-soaked necrosis, wilting, drooping, and a gradual browning of leaves.
Solutions
Remove frost-damaged sections. Promptly relocate indoors to a warm setting or construct a temporary greenhouse for cold defense. Indoors, position near a south-facing window for ample light. Supplement with artificial lighting if natural light is insufficient.
Signs of Heat Stress in Maize
Symptoms
In summer, Maize should remain below 95℉. Temperatures above 104℉ impede growth, lighten leaf color, and increase sunburn vulnerability.
Solutions
Remove sun-scorched and desiccated portions. Relocate the plant to a spot offering afternoon shade. Water in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
