Signs of Cold Stress in Flat-leaved vanilla
Symptoms
Flat-leaved vanilla flourishes in warm conditions and cannot withstand cold. Optimal growth occurs when temperatures exceed 70℉. In winter, maintain temperatures above 59℉. If temperatures drop below 50℉, leaves will show widespread water-soaked decay, shriveling, and drooping.
Solutions
Remove any frost-damaged sections. Promptly move the plant indoors to a warm spot for cold protection. Position the plant near a south-facing window for sufficient light. Also, avoid placing it near heating or AC vents to prevent overly dry air.
Signs of Heat Stress in Flat-leaved vanilla
Symptoms
In summer, Flat-leaved vanilla should be kept below 86℉. When temperatures surpass 95℉, plant development stops, and leaves progressively wilt. It becomes more prone to root decay and can easily get scorched by direct sun.
Solutions
Cut off any sunburnt and desiccated portions. Relocate the plant to a spot offering shade from the midday and afternoon sun. Water the plant in the morning and evening to maintain moisture for both the plant and its surroundings.
