Signs of Cold Stress in American elm
Symptoms
American elm tolerates cold well and grows optimally when temperatures are above 60℉. In winter, it needs to stay above 50℉. If temperatures drop below 32℉, while no immediate changes might be seen in winter, branches can become brittle and dry by spring, with no new growth appearing.
Solutions
In spring, remove any dead branches that haven't produced new foliage.

Symptoms
During summer, American elm should be maintained below 75℉. When temperatures surpass 85℉, the plant's leaves may lighten in hue, their tips might dry and shrivel, and the plant becomes more prone to sun damage.
Solutions
Remove any parts that are sunburned and dried. Relocate the plant to a spot offering protection from the midday and afternoon sun, or use a shade cloth for cover. Water the plant in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
