Signs of Cold Temperatures in Mountain hemlock
Symptoms
Mountain hemlock tolerates cold well and flourishes when temperatures are above 40℉. In winter, maintain temperatures above 20℉. If the temperature drops below -10℉, while winter changes might be unnoticeable, branches can become brittle and dry by spring, with no new growth appearing.
Solutions
In spring, remove any dead branches that have not produced new foliage.
Signs of High Temperatures in Mountain hemlock
Symptoms
In summer, Mountain hemlock should be kept below 60℉. When temperatures exceed 70℉, the plant's leaves may lighten, tips might dry and shrivel, and it becomes more prone to sunburn.
Solutions
Remove any sun-damaged and desiccated sections. Relocate the plant to a spot offering protection from midday and afternoon sun, or use a shade cloth. Water the plant in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
