Signs of Cold Stress in Chayote
Symptoms
Chayote exhibits moderate resilience to cool temperatures, flourishing optimally when temperatures range from 68℉ to 77℉. In winter, it should be maintained above 50℉. If temperatures drop below 32℉, foliage may darken. In extreme instances, water-soaked tissue death, wilting, and drooping can occur, with leaves progressively turning brown.
Solutions
Remove any parts damaged by frost. Promptly relocate the plant indoors to a warm setting or construct a temporary greenhouse for cold defense. When bringing the plant inside, select a spot near a south-facing window to guarantee sufficient light. If light is inadequate, supplementary lighting can be used.
Signs of Heat Stress in Chayote
Symptoms
In summer, Chayote should be kept below 77℉. When temperatures surpass 86℉, the plant's development slows, its leaf color lightens, and it becomes more prone to sun damage.
Solutions
Prune off any sunburnt and desiccated sections. Relocate the plant to an area offering protection from the afternoon sun. Irrigate the plant in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
