Portuguese squill tolerates cold well and flourishes optimally when temperatures exceed 60℉. In winter, it needs to be maintained above 50℉. Should the temperature drop below 40℉, while winter might show no immediate effects, spring could see reduced or absent sprouting.

In spring, remove any sections that have not sprouted.

Symptoms
In summer, Portuguese squill should be kept below 70℉. If temperatures go above 80℉, the plant's leaves might lighten, curl easily, suffer from sunburn, and in extreme cases, the whole plant could wilt and dry out.
Solutions
Remove any parts that are sunburned and dried. Relocate the plant to a spot offering protection from midday and afternoon sun, or use a shade cloth. Water the plant in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
