Signs of Cold Exposure in Chinese firethorn
Symptoms
Chinese firethorn tolerates cold well and flourishes best when temperatures exceed 60℉. In winter, maintain temperatures above 50℉. If temperatures drop below 32℉, while no immediate winter changes may be apparent, branches can become fragile and dry by spring, with no new growth appearing.
Solutions
In spring, remove any dead branches that have not produced new foliage.
Signs of Heat Stress in Chinese firethorn
Symptoms
During summer, Chinese firethorn should be kept below 77℉. When temperatures surpass 86℉, the plant's leaves might lighten in hue, tips may dry and shrivel, and the plant becomes more prone to sun damage.
Solutions
Remove any sun-damaged and desiccated sections. Relocate the plant to a spot offering protection from midday and afternoon sun, or use a shade fabric. Water the plant in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
