Signs of Cold Stress in Totara
Symptoms
Totara favors warm conditions and cannot withstand low temperatures. It flourishes optimally when temperatures exceed 60℉. In winter, it needs to be maintained above 50℉. If the temperature drops below 40℉, foliage may lose some color. Following frost damage, leaves progressively turn brown or black, and signs like wilting and drooping might appear.
Solutions
Remove any parts damaged by frost. Promptly relocate the plant indoors to a warm setting for protection from cold. Position the plant near a south-facing window to ensure sufficient light. Furthermore, avoid placing it near heating units or AC vents to prevent overly dry air.
Signs of Heat Stress in Totara
Symptoms
In summer, Totara should be kept below 75℉. When temperatures surpass 85℉, the leaves' hue lightens, and the plant becomes more prone to sun damage.
Solutions
Prune off any sun-scorched and desiccated sections. Relocate the plant to a spot offering shade from the midday and afternoon sun. Water the plant in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
