Signs of Cold Stress in Black pepper
Symptoms
Black pepper favors warm conditions and cannot withstand low temperatures. It flourishes optimally when temperatures exceed 75℉. In winter, it needs to be maintained above 60℉. If the temperature drops below 50℉, foliage might lose some color. Following frost damage, the leaves progressively turn brown or black, and signs like wilting and drooping can appear.
Solutions
Remove any parts damaged by frost. Promptly relocate the plant indoors to a warm setting for protection from cold. Select a location near a south-facing window for the plant, ensuring plenty of light. Furthermore, avoid positioning the plant near heating units or AC vents to prevent excessive air dryness.
