Signs of Cold Stress in Japanese pieris
Symptoms
Japanese pieris tolerates cold well and flourishes when temperatures are above 50℉. In winter, maintain temperatures above 45℉. If temperatures drop below 40℉, while no immediate changes might be seen in winter, branches can become brittle and dry by spring, preventing new growth.
Solutions
In spring, remove any dead branches that haven't produced new foliage.
Signs of Heat Stress in Japanese pieris
Symptoms
In summer, Japanese pieris should be kept below 70℉. When temperatures surpass 75℉, the plant's leaves may lighten in hue, tips might dry and shrivel, and it becomes more prone to sunburn.
Solutions
Cut off any sun-damaged and desiccated sections. Relocate the plant to a spot offering protection from midday and afternoon sun, or use a shade cloth. Water the plant in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
