Signs of Cold Stress in White spruce
Symptoms
White spruce tolerates extreme cold well, but winter temperatures should stay above -40℉. If temperatures fall below this, while no immediate changes might be seen in winter, branches can become brittle and dry in spring, with no new growth appearing.
Solutions
During spring, remove any dead branches that haven't produced new foliage.
Signs of Heat Stress in White spruce
Symptoms
White spruce does not handle high temperatures well. When temperatures go above 77℉, it can shed many leaves, and in severe cases, the whole plant might wilt and perish.
Solutions
Cut off any sun-scorched and dried-out sections. Relocate the plant to a spot offering protection from the midday and afternoon sun, or use a shade fabric. Water the plant in the morning and evening to keep the soil damp.
