Signs of Cold Stress in Moso bamboo
Symptoms
Moso bamboo tolerates cold well and flourishes optimally when temperatures exceed 59℉. In winter, maintain temperatures above 50℉. If temperatures drop below 32℉, while no immediate winter damage may be apparent, spring may see reduced or absent new shoot development.
Solutions
In spring, remove any sections that have not produced new growth.
Signs of Heat Stress in Moso bamboo
Symptoms
In summer, Moso bamboo should be kept below 77℉. When temperatures surpass 86℉, the plant's foliage may lighten, curl, become prone to sunscald, and in severe instances, the whole plant might wilt and desiccate.
Solutions
Remove any sun-damaged and dried-out portions. Relocate the plant to an area offering protection from midday and afternoon sun, or deploy a shade cloth. Water the plant in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
