Signs of Cold Stress in Devil's Club
Symptoms
Devil's Club tolerates cold well and grows optimally when temperatures are above 60℉. In winter, it needs to stay above 50℉. If temperatures drop below 40℉, while no immediate winter changes might be apparent, branches can become brittle and dry in spring, with no new growth appearing.
Solutions
In spring, remove any dead branches that have not produced new foliage.
Signs of Heat Stress in Devil's Club
Symptoms
In summer, Devil's Club should be maintained below 75℉. When temperatures surpass 85℉, the plant's leaves might lighten in hue, tips could dry and shrivel, and it becomes more prone to sunburn.
Solutions
Remove any parts that are sunburned and dried. Relocate the plant to a spot offering protection from midday and afternoon sun, or use a shade cloth. Water the plant in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
