Signs of Cold Stress in Sweet basil
Symptoms
Sweet basil favors warm conditions and cannot withstand low temperatures. It flourishes optimally when temperatures exceed 70℉. In winter, it must be maintained above 60℉. Should the temperature drop below 50℉, foliage may lose some color. Following frost damage, leaves progressively turn brown or black, and signs like wilting and drooping might appear.
Solutions
Remove any parts damaged by frost. Promptly relocate indoors to a warm setting for protection against cold. Select a location near a south-facing window for the plant, ensuring abundant light. Furthermore, avoid positioning the plant near heating units or AC vents to prevent overly dry air.
Signs of Heat Stress in Sweet basil
Symptoms
In summer, Sweet basil should be kept below 85℉. When temperatures surpass 90℉, leaf coloration becomes paler, and the plant is more prone to sunburn.
Solutions
Prune off any sun-scorched and desiccated sections. Relocate the plant to an area offering shade from the midday and afternoon sun. Irrigate the plant in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
